Where Time stands Still
Work development
Photography
Photography is always my go to medium when beginning a new project. In the past four years I have worked primarily with nature in landscapes. Photography makes it possible for me to take multiple snaps of the forest and woodlands in changing conditions. Perspective plays a key role in my work because it draws the viewer’s eye into the landscape. As naturalist Nick Baker describes this ‘trees that enclosed the track in a dark natural tunnel, their branches stretched and interlocking like thoughtful fingers a couple of metres overhead, occasionally loosely enough to let pools of limpid light through, spotlights on what lay beneath (ReWild the art of returning to nature). This is what I strive to depict.

PORTFOLIORecent Projects
My most recent body of work consists of nine (8.3x2ft) paintings. The work is
based on the series of photos 'Where Time stands Still' captured in Togher Woods, Portlaoise. There is a fictional aspect to these largescale paintings. My imagination was transported back to my childhood, when I envisioned trees with human faces, trees that can talk, and sometimes walk. The application of the burgeoning colours on the tree trunks take the life of the electrical impulses that pass through the roots of the tree. The colour is inspired by the sugars and nutrients that are absorbed, emanating life and beauty. |
